Volunteer lifesaving is the core service of Strand Surf Lifesaving Our volunteer lifeguards proudly patrol the beaches from 13:45 until 18:00 on Saturdays and 09:45 until 18:00 on Sundays and public holidays during the summer season.
Nippers are taught all about rips and currents, treating bluebottle stings and understanding flag signals, the fastest way in and the safest way out, when to swim and when not to...in short this is an introduction to lifesaving and most importantly, it’s all about how to look after yourself in the surf. The ultimate goal is for Nippers to become LIFEGUARDS!
No matter if you are a fair weather paddler or an all weather paddler we have a place for everyone at Strand to keep it both fun and daunting at the same time! The Downwind thrill seeking Junkies have multiple heart pumping adrenalin races like the False Bay crossing from Hangklip to Fishhoek in a howling Cape Doctor, or a Gordon’s Bay to Monwabisi in a proper South-Easter.
